On this date in 1782 the first American commercial bank opened. It was the Bank of North America.

In 1894 William Kennedy Dickson received a patent on this day for motion picture  film.

On this date in 1943 the world lost Nikola Tesla. Tesla was an inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist. He was best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electric supply system.
