It’s not long before kids go back to school, cooler weather returns, and we get to start thinking about our fall reads. Recently we mentioned Jim Grayson‘s new book, Trailer Vamp: Love Bites (A Josh Blackthorn Adventure). Jim is proving an autographed copy and Village Book Shop is providing a $10 Amazon gift card and a lovely bookmark. Read on to learn how to enter Village Book Shop’s first online giveaway!
The book is told first-person point of view of the hero, Josh Blackthorn, an educated man whose life is turned upside down at his high school reunion. The girl from high school Josh describes as “that special, unattainable girl, fever enshrined in my heart” decided to turn him into a Creature of the Night and then disappears. When we meet Josh he’s living in a trailer, working as a writer and feeding on the Chicago’s criminal population. It’s been about two years and he’s finally feeling settled into his new life when Becky, the girl who turned him, returns. The readers then get to join Josh and Becky on a roller coaster ride of trying to defeat a dangerous old-world vampire who is plotting to take over Chicago and that’s just the beginning of their adventures!
This is one of those books I was torn between wanting to read fast, while not wanting to read it too fast, because the faster I read it the sooner I have to step away from this story and these characters that feel like long time friends. This is the first book in the series and Jim Grayson is currently editing the second book. I am anxiously awaiting the second book (which I’ve had a peek at and am loving so far!).
I’ve known Jim Grayson for some time, as we are both members of the Literary Critique group led by K. Andrew Turner. This group used to meet in the brick-and-mortar version of Village Book Shop and continues to meet in Glendora twice a month. Through this group I saw this project grow. And I’ll tell you something that may upset other members of the group but is my honest opinion. Of ALL of the pieces of writing that have come through that group, the Trailer Vamp stories are my favorite (considering how good nearly all of the work that gets read in that group is saying a lot). Trailer Vamp: Love Bites is a lot of fun and a book I would have loved whether I knew the author or not. The characters are relatable, the plot is great: full of adventure and wonderfully paced. I had a hard time putting it down.
