Starting this month we are changing up our format a bit and have some other changes in the mix. We will be switching to 6 days a week of these grab bag posts, leaving Sundays for a day of rest or the occasional special post (as you’ll see this Sunday!).

It is Rounds Resounding Day. Rounds Resounding Society sponsors this day meant to celebrate the singing of rounds, catches and canons. The tradition of rounds has survived for centuries. As early as the late 14th century there were published rounds. Rounds are musical compositions where two or more people sing the same melody, basically on a loop, but start at different times. As they sing, different parts of the melody overlap, but ultimately fit together in perfect harmony. More daring performers may choose to sing a catch — a type of round where a catchphrase that might not be obvious in a single line emerges when all the singer’s voices come together, often with obscene results. The day’s motto reads: “as rounds resound and resound, all the world’s joined in a circle of harmony.”

August 1st kicks off National Minority Donor Awareness Week. This is observed each year and was created to increase awareness of the need for more organ, eye, and tissue donors, especially among minorities. With more than half of the candidates waiting for transplant are from minority groups; thus it is very important that minorities become the active member of the transplant group and get involved in the noble cause.
